Point Pelee National Park is now open from 7:00 a.m. to sunset, seven days a week for daily access.
Visitors will have access to the main road, from the front gate to the visitor centre; day-use trails, including cycling access on designated trails and pathways; day-use areas including green spaces, picnic areas, and beaches; select public washrooms located throughout the park and all parking areas.
As construction on the main road continues, visitors are advised to respect all on-site signage, reduce speed, and be prepared to experience intermittent minor delays or restrictions on the road in the park.
Point Pelee National Park is also pleased to announce the return of camping at the oTENTik village beginning July 15. All reservations for dates up to and including July 14 will be automatically cancelled and refunded, and existing reservations from July 15 on will be honoured.
Parks Canada will begin to accept new online reservations for oTENTik camping at Point Pelee National Park on July 9, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Reservations can be made by calling 1-877-RESERVE (737-3783) or by visiting Parks Canada Campground Reservation Service. Visitors making reservations for oTENTik camping should be advised that from Friday to Sunday, there will be a minimum 2-night stay.
oTENTik users will have access to the comfort station with showers and flush toilets; water taps; and the camp office to purchase firewood and limited provisions.
There will be no group camping in Point Pelee National Park for the remainder of the 2020 season. Events, group and interpretation activities remain suspended until further notice.
Visitors are asked to plan ahead by checking the Point Pelee National Park website at www.pc.gc.ca/pelee before they travel to find out what is open, what they can expect, and how to prepare for their visit. The number of vehicles entering the park will be limited based on parking capacity – visitors may experience wait times.
Visitors must follow local and provincial travel restrictions, including requirements for self-isolation. It is not possible to self-isolate at Parks Canada campgrounds. Visitors must complete any provincial or territorial requirements for self-isolation before arriving to camp at Point Pelee National Park.
Visitors are asked to follow the advice of public health experts, including necessary hygiene practices and physical distancing of two metres from others.
Parks Canada is asking Canadians to be cautious and conservative when they visit Point Pelee National Park and to respect any closures that are in place. Anyone participating in recreational activities should be extra cautious to avoid injury and/or getting lost to help minimize the demands placed on search and rescue teams and on the health care system.
