Police Launch Campaign To Address Concerns At CASO Trail

Chatham-Kent police have launched an awareness campaign due to an increase in improper use and vandalism at the CASO Trail.

In partnership with Entegrus and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the Chatham-Kent Police Service said the new campaign will aim to address ongoing concerns reported along the trail and surrounding the Entegrus Corridor, while educating residents about permitted activities.

The trail, which runs along the former Canadian Southern Rail Line corridor, south of Highway 401, is a well-used recreational space for walking, running, cycling, and enjoying nature.

Unauthorized motorized vehicles, dumping, and trespassing on private Entegrus property have been ongoing concerns at the CASO Trail, highlighting the need to reinforce responsible use.

The awareness campaign was developed after CK Council passed a motion in November to have administration consult with Entegrus and the police to address the ongoing issues.

Those using the 11-kilometre trail are reminded that motorized vehicles, such as ATVs or snowmobiles, are not permitted and can damage the gravel surface, cause erosion, and create safety hazards for others.

Anyone who witnesses prohibited activities taking place on the trail is asked to report it on the Chatham-Kent Police Service online reporting tool.
