A $2.4-million lawsuit has been filed against the Chatham-Kent Police Service and one of its officers by a Wallaceburg couple.

The lawsuit alleges the services undertook acts contrary to The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, along with allegations of conspiracy and malicious prosecution.

At the heart of the matter is the relationship between a common law Wallaceburg couple, and the adult daughter of their neighbours.

It`s alleged that the couple were engaged in a relationship with the 21-year-old woman back in 2009.

When the relationship ended, the woman’s parents learned of the affair and it’s at that time the suit alleges the neighbours began a campaign of false accusations, which included an officer maliciously or negligently swore false information.

The situation eventually escalated to the point that the couple were arrested in a police raid in front of their children.
