Charges have been laid after a Blenheim man was allegedly caught red-handed trying to steal from inside a vehicle.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers on patrol spotted a suspicious man in a vehicle just before 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The vehicle was parked in front of a residence on Little Street North, with the driver’s door open.
After the man identified himself to the officers, he attempted to run but was quickly arrested.
Authorities said the man had entered the vehicle unlawfully, and several items had been disturbed. He was also bound by previous release conditions not to enter any vehicle.
A 44-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with attempted theft and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was taken to the South West Detention Centre to await his next court appearance.
