Local police officers will be honing their skills at a former Chatham school over the next week.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service will be conducting training exercises from July 27 through July 31 at George P. Vanier Catholic School on Cecile Avenue in Chatham, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
These exercises are part of routinely scheduled, provincially mandated Immediate Rapid Deployment training, which prepares officers to respond effectively to critical incidents in schools and the community.
Area residents may notice an increased police presence in the area during these times, but authorities stressed that it is not in response to any specific threat or incident, and there is no risk to the public.
