Policing Grant To Support Victims Of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking

Chatham-Kent’s police department is set to receive provincial funding to help support victims and survivors of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, human trafficking and child exploitation.

As part of a $4 million investment from the Ontario government, the Chatham-Kent Police Service will receive $99,835 for Project Waypoint.

The funding will be used to cross-train officers and members of LinCK in evidence-based interviewing techniques that will improve their ability to obtain accurate and reliable information from victims and witnesses. These techniques are also designed to reduce trauma and improve outcomes.

The police service will also use the funds to ensure interviewing rooms are safe and comfortable for victims.

The provincial funding will be delivered through the province’s Victim Support Grant Program, which is part of Ontario’s Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy.
