Chatham residents opened their hearts and their wallets to the Chatham Goodfellows.
Last night’s annual Porchlight Campaign raised $41,900 in cash, on par with last year’s fundraiser.
Director Tim Mifflin says the 530 volunteers also collected enough non-perishable food to fill over 90 banana boxes, and enough new toys to fill 60 banana boxes.
Volunteers heard a great story of one local girl who went above and beyond to help.
Five-year-old Tessa Attewell collected donations at her birthday party on November 18th.
The party had a superhero theme, with kids invited to ” save the day” by making a donation of canned goods, a toy or winter clothing.
The toys and food will be donated to Chatham Goodfellows to “Ensure No Child Without a Christmas”.
Next up for the Goodfellows will be toy packing, starting on December 11.
The Street Sales portion of the campaign runs December 15-16.
