Power Outage Planned in Tilbury

A heads up for residents in and around Tilbury with a major power outage planned for next weekend.

Officials with Entegrus, Chatham-Kent’s electricity provider, are warning residents about a planned power outage for the entire town of Tilbury and the rural area around the town, on October 6 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If there are weather issues, an alternate date is scheduled for October 20.

Tomo Matesic, Entegrus’ vice-president of engineering and operations, told Chatham-Kent council on Monday that Hydro One is doing work on the transmission lines that feed the station that serves the town of Tilbury, which necessitates having the entire town have no power for a planned seven hours.

Both Entegrus and Hydro One websites have information about the planned outage and how to prepare in advance for the outage.

Matesic said they’ve conducted calls to the large businesses in Tilbury and have completed automated calls to residents if their numbers are on file.

Allison Phillipps, Chatham-Kent’s emergency management coordinator, said the municipality has been working with Entegrus and plan on having the Economic Development department to go out to discuss the planned outage with Tilbury-area businesses.
