PPC Excluded From CK Chamber Debate

Shots are being fired locally as the federal election campaign enters the home stretch, but not from one candidate to another.

The People’s Party of Canada is taking aim at the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce after neither candidate in Chatham-Kent-Leamington or Lambton-Kent-Middlesex was invited to an upcoming youth-focused debate.

The forum set to air on YourTV on September 9th.

CKL PPC candidate Liz Vallee says she’s shocked both she and LKM’s Kevin Mitchell were left out, with the Chamber citing a policy that follows the guidelines for federal leaders’ debates based on the number of previous elected MPs and overall national support in the last election.

“It is crucial for us to be a part of a public forum so that our general public can make an informed decision on who would best represent them in the future,” Valley says. “We are concerned that national polling numbers are the criteria for local debates as our local polling numbers reflect a true potential to win this riding.”
