Prolonged Heat Warning Continues In CK

With a prolonged period of extreme heat and humidity expected to continue into Thursday, area residents are reminded to take precautions to protect themselves and others.

A heat warning remains in effect in Chatham-Kent with daytime highs expected to reach 29 to 32 C, and the humidex making it feel closer to 35 to 40 C. Overnight lows of 19 to 23 C are also providing little relief from the heat.

A shift in the weather pattern is expected to break the heat and humidity on Thursday night.

CK residents are urged to drink water often to stay hydrated, close blinds or shades, turn on air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space. Everyone should limit direct exposure to the sun, wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing, and a wide-brimmed hat.

Those at greater risk of heat-related illness include older adults, those living alone, the very young, people with chronic illnesses, and even healthy people if they participate in strenuous activities and do not take precautions.

Chatham-Kent municipal centres and libraries have been made available during regular business hours to help the public get out of the heat if needed.
