Promoting CK as a Film and TV Destination

Chatham-Kent is looking at the potential of bringing film and television productions to the region.

At tonight’s Chatham-Kent council meeting, council will consider spending almost $135,000 to fund hiring someone for at least a year and give them a budget to explore and research the potential of the film/television/streaming industry sector in Chatham-Kent.

Additionally, they will research the potential of economic spin-offs, as well as report back on relevant findings that demonstrate the feasibility or non-viability of filming in Chatham-Kent.

In a report to council, it’s estimated that 30 percent of a production’s budget circulates back into the local community through various expenditures, and there’s a potential opportunity to lure filmmakers, television and streaming productions to Chatham-Kent.

The report said that numerous productions are currently exploring alternative areas beyond Toronto and Hamilton for their filming needs. Many productions are searching for alternative locations, such as Chatham-Kent.
