Proposed Residential Development in Wallaceburg

A public community meeting will be held tonight at the UAW Hall on Elm Street regarding a potential housing development at the former W.T. Laing school property.

Neighbours and area residents can see plans for the property, as well as ask questions or raise any concerns they might have. Trident Builders, a private developer, is planning the subdivision.

Plans for the property include 32 semi-detached homes and 24 townhouse units.

The property, which has been owned by a private owner for close to 20 years, has been vacant since the school closed.

W.T. Laing Elementary closed in 2001 and the building, which had become heavily vandalized, was torn down in 2010. The property is surrounded by Elgin, Lisgar, Lorne and Elizabeth streets.

The development will go to Chatham-Kent council for zoning approval, likely later this year.

The community meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
