Proposed Route Changes for Hydro One’s Longwood to Lakeshore Transmission Line

Changes are being made to a proposed transmission line through southwestern Ontario.

Hydro One is planning a new single-circuit 500 kilovolt transmission line from the Longwood Transformer Station in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc to the Lakeshore Transformer Station in Lakeshore.

However, following public and stakeholder consultation, field studies, and technical analysis, the utility has removed one potential route entirely and made adjustments to the remaining alternatives to address newly identified technical and environmental constraints.

Among the changes include shifting one route to avoid a heron colony nesting site west of Thamesville and a municipal water pump house near Prairie Siding.

Further public consultation meetings are being planned over the next month, including a meeting in Chatham November 20 and Thamesville on November 28.

Hydro One officials say the final route decision will take into account both the advantages and disadvantages of each route, with the preferred route expected to be announced in early-to-mid 2025.
