Chatham-Kent may be hiring some biologists in the near future, as Ontario Municipalities face new responsibilities when it comes to endangered species.
Back in July 2015, all responsibilities under the Endangered Species Act was placed on Ontario Municipalities.
Before that, they had worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
This poses a problem as the Municipality doesn’t have a background in biology and will need to seek advice or hire up to 4 experts in the field.
Until then, they’ll continue to meet with staff and officials to ensure species are protected, particularly when it comes to the drainage industry.
