Province Expanding Second Booster Eligibility

Amid the seventh wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario government is expanding eligibility for the second booster doses of the vaccine.

In consultation with Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore, the province announced on Wednesday that Ontarians aged 18 and over will be eligible for the second booster starting on Thursday.

“Expanding eligibility to second booster doses and providing continued access to testing will empower Ontarians to make the best decisions for their circumstances and help keep our communities safe,” Dr. Moore said in a news release. “Staying up to date on vaccination is the best protection against severe outcomes from COVID-19.”

Moore confirmed last week that the province is in the seventh wave of the pandemic.

The province said the second booster is offered five months after the first, however, most individuals will continue to have strong protection more than six months after their first booster.

Those eligible will be able to book an appointment through the COVID-19 vaccination portal, by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre, or through public health units that use their own booking system.
