Province Offering Free Business Training For Racialized Entrepreneurs

The Ontario government is working to break down systemic barriers for Indigenous, Black and other racialized entrepreneurs by offering businesses training and support.

The province is now accepting applications for this year’s Racialized and Indigenous Supports for Entrepreneurs (RAISE) program to provide free access to business coaching. The government is investing $5,000 to support 400 racialized people for 2023-24 as part of the three-year $15 million program aimed at helping entrepreneurs launch and grow small businesses.

“Many Indigenous, Black and racialized people continue to face systemic barriers in starting and growing their businesses,” said Graham McGregor, acting Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, in a news release. “That’s why our government is making sure the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs is equipped with the tools, resources and capital they need to transform their passions into successful and competitive businesses.”

The training includes online modules on business financials, cash flow management, business operations, marketing and public relations strategies, and digital transformation. The program also provides networking opportunities and one-on-one and small-group business coaching.

The RAISE program, initially launched in 2022, is offered in partnership with DMZ at Toronto Metropolitan University. To date, the program has supported more than 900 individuals.

Those interested can apply to the program online by clicking here. Applications will close on October 30.
