The Ontario government has awarded $3 million to Chatham-Kent for the rehabilitation of Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said on Wednesday the funding had been approved through the Connecting Links Funding Program.
The Ministry of Transportation program provides funding to eligible municipalities to cover up to 90 per cent of costs for road infrastructure costs, up to a maximum of $3 million.
The municipality has previously stated that Dufferin Avenue is in desperate need of repairs, and submitted an application in the fall of 2020 to fix up the section of road from the McNaughton/Lisgar intersection to just west of Walnut.
A start date for construction has not yet been announced.
The municipality’s first bid for funding to repair Dufferin Avenue failed to gain provincial support in 2021.
