Provincial Minister in CK Today

As Chatham-Kent residents start the process of drying out and cleaning up from flooding not seen in decades, Ontario’s Municipal Affairs Minister will tour some of the affected areas this afternoon.

Dozens of roads in Thamesville and Chatham were closed over the weekend due to flooding.

With stops planned in Thamesville and Chatham, Bill Mauro is getting a first-hand look at the damage caused by the weekend’s flood that saw the Thames River rise 5.25 metres above normal.

The Minister’s visit is seen as laying the groundwork for potential requests for provincial disaster relief assistance.

Earlier this morning, Mauro paid a visit to Brantford, where a massive ice jam forced the Grand River swelled to more than seven metres above normal late last week.
