Public Meeting To Provide Details On Dufferin Ave. Construction

Wallaceburg residents interested in learning more about a major construction project on Dufferin Avenue are encouraged to attend an upcoming public information session.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will host the public meeting at the Wallaceburg Service Centre, on May 25 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The meeting will include a short presentation and drawings of the rehabilitation plan will be provided for viewing.

The construction project involves the rehabilitation of 1.9 km of Dufferin Avenue from the McNaughton Avenue intersection to 90 metres west of Walnut Drive.

Construction will begin this month with road work expected to continue until November 2023, however, an exact start date has not been announced. Restoration work will then take place in the spring/summer of 2024.

Along with the road, construction crews will be replacing storm sewers, watermains, sidewalks, and traffic signals.

The road will remain open to traffic in both directors throughout the project, and access to properties and businesses will remain open. However, some unavoidable disruptions may occur at times.

The Ontario government awarded $3 million to Chatham-Kent last year for the Dufferin Avenue project. The funding was provided through the province’s Connecting Links funding program.
