The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is taking another step towards addressing watermain issues in Wallaceburg.
At the October 15 Public Utilities Commission meeting, RC Spencer Associates was awarded the contract for engineering services for watermain replacement along Dufferin Avenue, from Highway 40 to Wallaceburg’s western limits, at a cost of just under $330,000. The project has been identified as part of the 2026 watermain lifecycle budget.
Officials say there have been ongoing operation and condition-related issues with the watermain which was installed in 1980, including several breaks over the last several years.
The project has been identified as part of the 2026 watermain lifecycle budget. Consulting engineering services are expected to begin before the end of the year, with construction and inspection services to be completed in two phases during the 2027 and 2028 calendar years.
PUC officials say prior to construction, a virtual Public Information Centre will be posted to the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website to give residents an opportunity to review the scope of the project and provide feedback.
