PUC Rates on the Rise

Chatham-Kent residents will soon be paying a little more for their water.

At its monthly meeting this week, the public utilities commission approved an increase for water and wastewater rates.

The hike works out to an average of 69 cents a month for water, and $1.03 for wastewater.

Consumption charges for raw water users will rise to 55 cents per cubic metre, and septic treatment charges are going up to nine cents per imperial gallon.

PUC staff say the increases help cover the cost for treatment and delivery of water and wastewater, as well as provide funding for operational, maintenance, lifecycle, and debt financing for the coming year.
