Pumping Station To Be Moved

The Chatham-Kent PUC is preparing to launch a $3-million  project to relocate a sanitary pump station in downtown Chatham.

Officials say the existing pump station has been in operation since 1963 and is currently underground in the staging area in front of the fire station near Second Street and King.

It’s being moved to the northeast corner of the intersection to make it more easily accessible.

The first phase of the project is expected to have minimal impact on traffic in the area, although seven parking spots will be reserved for the contractor and the sidewalk at the east corner of King and Second Street will be blocked off.

The first phase, construction of the new pump station, should be done by May, after which crews will begin reconstruction and redirection of the sewers.

The entire project should be done by November.
