Puppy Scam Lands Pair With Fraud Charges

Charges have been laid against a pair of Chatham Township residents, accused of a puppy scam.

Chatham-Kent Police say six Yorkie puppies were listed for sale for $800 each on Kijiji back in May.

Nine people responded, sending e-transfer payments to the couple as a deposit.

Then in June, the pair claimed the puppies had been stolen, but none of the potential buyers got their money back.

In all, authorities say the sellers received $3840 for the dogs.

The accused have now been charged with nine counts of fraud, and will have to answer to a judge in court next month.
