This year’s Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow Competition takes place on August 13th and they are looking for contestants.
Current Queen of the Furrow Stephanie Campbell says the competition is for girls 17-23, and are required to give a short speech on agriculture, be interviewed by a panel of 3 judges, and plow a parcel of land.
The Princess of the Furrow Competition will also take place the same day, for girls aged 11-15. Princesses won’t need to plow, but are required to give a short speech on any topic related to agriculture.

Queen of the Furrow Requirements
- Contestants must be 17-23 years of age as of local C-K match
- No entry fee, but contestants must register with Stephanie Campbell
- Required to give 2-3 minute speech on any topic related to agriculture, interview with panel of 3 judges, plow a parcel of land and answer an impromptu question
- Contestants must have proof of $2M liability insurance coverage
Princess of the Furrow
- Contestants must be 11-15 years of age as of local C-K match
- No entry fee, but contestants must register with Stephanie Campbell
- Required to give 1-2 minute speech on any topic related to agriculture
- Interview with a panel of 3 judges
The girls are judged on three main categories: Interview, Speech and Plowing, with an optional Impromptu at the judges request. For the Princess of the furrow, it is just an Interview and Speech with possible Impromptu; they are not expected to plow.
Speeches, potential impromptu and crowning will be held at the banquet which is tentatively booked for the Moose Lodge in Chatham, to which you would be a guest.
