Damage has been estimated at $20,000 following a stubborn rail tie fire in Chatham.
Fire fighters from Stations 1 and 2 in Chatham responded to the tracks on Bloomfield Road just north of Richmond Street shortly after 7 o’clock Thursday evening.
Tankers from Raleigh North, Harwich North, and Chatham South were called in to help supplement water supplies to tackle the flames in a large pile of railroad ties.
Fire fighters remained on scene for several hours before the flames were doused.
No injuries have been reported. Officials say the cause remains undetermined.
