Wet weather on the way could spell trouble for local waterways.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for as much as 15 to 20 mm of rain today. The weather agency says since the ground is still frozen, it has less capacity to absorb any additional moisture.
Officials with the St Clair Region Conservation Authority say water levels are still high after last week’s rain and melting snow, and ice on rivers and along shorelines will continue to deteriorate with more rain and fluctuating temperatures.
A statement from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority calls for localized flooding and ponding in some areas. Officials say many smaller waterways still filled with snow and ice could become blocked.
LTVCA staff will be keeping an eye out for melting ice and the potential for ice jams along the Thames River, and could operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel, if necessary.
