A charity event orchestrated by a local NHL star is returning to Chatham-Kent for its third year in support of two important causes.
The third annual Rally at the Barn pickleball tournament runs from Friday through Sunday at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre in Dresden.
Organized by Chicago Blackhawks player TJ Brodie, his wife Amber, and the Taylored Pickleball Academy, the event is geared towards pickleball players of all skill levels who want to celebrate by playing in a flighted tournament.
“It’s exciting. The numbers are really up from last year so that’s a positive and the youth clinics are really taking off,” said Brodie. “It’s nice to see young kids getting into it and starting to play.”
All funds raised will go to the Lighthouse Foundation, a charity created by the Brodie family to raise funds for cystic fibrosis and multiple sclerosis research.
“It’s a way to be able to give to both organizations and we always want to be able to give back to the community too,” said Brodie.
Amber was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in October 2015. As well, TJ has watched his cousin, Ian Badder, live with and battle cystic fibrosis his entire life.
