Reduced Speed Limit on Murray

Wallaceburg drivers will have to watch their speed when heading down Murray Street from now on.

The limit has been reduced to 40 kilometres an hour in front of Holy Family School as school safety zones are rolled out across Chatham-Kent.

Councillor Carmen McGregor says school safety zones are being rolled out across the municipality.

“They did a study of all the schools, eventually all the schools will be done but they’re starting with the higher priority ones,” McGregor says. “You need eyes in the back of your head right now in that area, I just really encourage everybody to take their time and also remember that in School Safety Zones, speeding fines are doubled.”

It’s expected Chatham-Kent Police will be keeping a closer eye on the stretch with increased traffic thanks to the Lord Selkirk Bridge closure.

Plans are still in the works to install a set of traffic lights on Reaume at Murray, although municipal officials still haven’t nailed down an exact timeline for that to happen.
