A local organization is working to reduce the stigma that still surrounds menstruation and feminine hygiene products.
Coinciding with Menstrual Hygiene Day, the United Way Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent is hosting a community celebration tomorrow evening, collecting menstrual hygiene products for those in need in the community.
Donations can be dropped off at the Period Promise Social Celebration at Match Eatery and Public House in Chatham.
Organizers say period products remain the most requested but least donated items at local food banks and shelters.
“No one should have to choose between food and basic hygiene,” said Lorraine Goddard, CEO of United Way Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent in a news release. “Whether you’re a local business hosting a bin or a student group rallying your peers, you are helping us build a more equitable and dignified future for every resident in Chatham-Kent.”
All donations collected will stay in Chatham-Kent, distributed through United Way initiatives, food banks, and other community-based programs to ensure dignity and access for all.
The event, which runs from 4-7pm, includes special local guests, complimentary appetizers, and door prizes.
