RetroFest Goes Virtual This Weekend

Thousands of people typically descend on downtown Chatham for RetroFest.

RetroFest is back in downtown Chatham, although because of ongoing COVID restrictions, the classic car festival is a little different this year.

Connie Beneteau with the Downtown Chatham BIA says the virtual celebration begins later today.

“We’re still under certain restrictions, so what we had to do is we made ourselves a RetroFest Livestream Cruise Party and Car Show. We’ll be presenting you our RetroFest, we’ll have cars pre-recorded so you’ll be able to see the ins and outs, we’re going to have a mini cruise passing through so you’ll be able to feel like you’re watching the cruise from the side of King Street.”

The virtual event will also include the Ms. RetroFest pageant, Junior Judges, and “live” entertainment.

Beneteau says while things may be different this year, the spirit remains the same.

“The car guys, they love to talk about their cars. We have 176 cars lined up on the Facebook page with the guys telling you the make, the model, the year, and those’ll be the ones that we will be awarding certain awards on Saturday, just like we would do on the Saturday on King Street.”

The live stream can be seen on the RetroFest Facebook page and the BIA’s website.
