A local politician is hoping to get area farmers’ take on changes to regulations governing the processing and marketing of
Conservative Rick Nicholls says as far as he can tell, growers were never asked for input on the changes to Regulation 4-40.
“It’s causing some concern within the farming community itself because what we don’t know is the impact that it’s going to have on farmers’ ability to earn.”
“I have sent a letter to the Chairman of the Farm Products Marketing Commission asking him what were the reasons for the removal of the OPVG’s negotiating powers and what power will the recommended industry advisory committee have and what will be their responsibilities. Nobody is getting back to us.”
Tonight’s meeting is being held at the Leamington Municipal Building, and gets underway at 7. If approved, the proposed changes would go into effect next year.
