A local grassroots organization is looking for some support from the public as it helps feed the homeless in the Chatham area.

Al McGuigan started ROCK Missions in August, 2019.

He and his team of volunteers hand out sandwiches, soups, and other supplies to over 100 people in the community each week.

“To date, we’ve handed out over 2000 lunches and that doesn’t include clothing and medical aid and hygiene products and that sort of thing,” McGuigan says. “We need help with volunteers and we need help with donations, whether that be donations in kind like juice boxes or pudding cups to go in lunch, clothing, and also cash donations are really appreciated.”

ROCK stands for Reach Out Chatham-Kent, and while right now they’re focusing on the Chatham area, McGuigan says the goal is to be able to cover the rest of the municipality as well.

“We reached out to 101 (people) this past Saturday, on average we’re doing about 80 people every Tuesday and Saturday.”

Anyone who’d like to volunteer can fill out an online application or reach out through the group’s Facebook page.
