Rocking Out to Feed the Hungry

An annual holiday tradition is hitting the stage in Chatham tonight – the Holiday Jam for Hunger is back for its 14th year.

Featuring local bands Dave’s Not Here and Blutonium, the event has been raising money for local food banks since 2004.

Organizer Alysson Storey says it was started by her group of friends who wanted to play some music over the holidays.

“We thought, why don’t we make this like a homecoming event,” Storey explanis. “So we went to a local bar, played music all night together, and decided if we’re doing this for fun, why don’t we make a little bit of money for charity.”

All proceeds support Outreach for Hunger, which Storey says receives no government funding.

Last year’s event brought in over $1200, the most organizers have ever raised in one night.

The Holiday Jam gets underway tonight at 7pm at Sons of Kent in Chatham.
