Charges have been laid following a deadly crash west of Wheatley eight months ago.
According to Essex OPP, an eastbound pickup truck crossed the centre line on County Road 34 shortly before 7 o’clock the morning of March 18, 2022, sideswiping a utility van before colliding head-on with a westbound sedan.
Two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene – 50-year-old Carrie Dawnette Steeman of Wheatley, and 30-year-old Jaqueline Marie Steeman from Tilbury.
The driver and lone occupant of the utility van was not hurt.
With support from OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, Leamington OPP have now completed their investigation.
A 22-year-old man from Romney, who was behind the wheel of the pickup, has now been charged with two counts each of impaired driving causing death, driving while prohibited, and dangerous driving causing death. He’s also facing an additional charge of taking a vehicle without consent.
