The Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise is unveiling a new park as a show of support for the people of Ukraine.
The club is holding a dedication ceremony for the new Salute to Ukraine Rotary Park at the corner of Grand Avenue East and Victoria Avenue in Chatham on Saturday.
The features of the small park include two beds of sunflowers, benches, as well as flags of Ukraine and Canada.
Creating the park was a cooperative effort between Community Living Chatham-Kent, which owns the property, and Rotary Sunrise.
During the dedication ceremony on Saturday, Rotary members will also present a cheque and announce how it will distribute the $40,000 that was generated through its sunflower seeds fundraiser. The group began selling packets of sunflowers in April to support humanitarian needs in war-ravaged Ukraine.
Proceeds are going to Rotary International’s ShelterBox program specifically targeting humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.
Major donors to the fundraiser and local businesses that assisted with the new park will be recognized during the dedication as well.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
