With just one week left before the Christmas holiday, the Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent is making one last push for donations.
The local chapter of the Salvation Army has reached 63.5 per cent of its $500,000 goal for the Red Kettle campaign and Christmas Hampers program, with over $150,000 remaining.
Major Larry Bridger with the Salvation Army said while general donations are down due to the Canada Post strike, donations at the red kettles have increased.
“We have noticed quite a few more cheques in kettles this year than last year,” he said.
Much of the money raised through the fundraisers helps to support families with food and toy purchases during the holiday season. The campaigns also support local programs and services, such as local thrift stores and food banks.
The red kettles will remain out in the Chatham-Kent community until 2 p.m. on December 24.
