Sandra Schmirler Foundations Donates $10K to CKHA

A big boost for the Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation was in town as part of the Grand Slam of Curling over the weekend, and brought with it a cheque for $10,000.

Foundation Executive Director Mary Lou Crowley says the grant will help newborns and other young patients.

“We’re very fortunate. Those dollars are actually going to go to a piece of equipment that’s going to help newborns and our pediatric patients to breathe easier when they have breathing problems,” says Crowley.

The Ottawa-based Sandra Schmirler Foundation supports NICUs (pronounced nic-u’s) and paediatric programs across Canada.

“We reached out and spoke to the Board of Directors and we were most fortunate to put a grant together in support of this piece of equipment,” Crowley says.

Crowley estimates 836 babies are born at the Health Alliance each year.

“This piece of equipment is very important for our pediatric unit,” says Crowley.
