Some tense moments in Chatham over the long weekend as a 12-hour standoff ended with the arrest of a local man.
Chatham-Kent Police responded to a Sandys Street address on Saturday to arrest a wanted man. When officers arrived, the accused barricaded himself inside the residence.
A containment area was set up and police engaged in crisis negotiations. Authorities say the situation was eventually de-escalated to ensure the safety of the public, the individual involved, and police.
After roughly 12 hours, members of the Chatham Kent Police Service and Emergency Response Team were able to safely apprehend the 30-year-old accused without incident.
However, no details have been released on what charges the man faces or whether he has been released from custody.
