Scam Takes Aim at Seniors

Seniors are the target of a new phone scam.

Lambton OPP are investigating a recent phone scam that cost the victim nearly $17,000.

Officers say an elderly man was called by someone alleging that they were from the Canadian Bureau Bank of Commerce. The caller told him his credit card had been compromised, and in order to catch the fraudster, he had to buy thousands of dollars’ worth of gift cards.

The caller asked for the activation numbers, and said that his investment would be returned once they caught the thief.

OPP say to inform police if you’re unsure about a call, or to visit the anti-fraud centre’s website.
