The local English Catholic school board is speaking out in the wake of a report on lead in drinking water.
Director of Education Deb Crawford says parents don’t have to worry about their children’s health, as the board has been working to address lead issues since 2007.
“We have instructions that if there’s an exceedance, the Boards are required to bag the fixture so it’s not usable and post signage to say it’s out of service until the matter’s resolved,” Crawford explains. “We’ve been following all the directions from the Ontario Government since this was implemented.”
A recent report on water in schools across Canada indicated four SCCDSB with high lead levels: St. Elizabeth in Wallaceburg, Our Lady of Fatima and St Ursula in Chatham, and St. Anne in Blenheim.
The board says protocol was followed at all all four, water fixtures in question were replaced, and flushing was increased to daily frequency.
