School Buses Hitting The Road This Week

Returning to school is an exciting time for kids, let alone after not seeing many of their friends since before March Break six months ago.

Chatham-Kent Police Special Constable Brenda Koldyk is asking local drivers to do their part in keeping local kids and fellow drivers safe.

“With parents and children, they might have a higher level of nervousness just with the added COVID situation,” Koldyk says.

Just reminding everyone that is the purpose, to get their children to school safely, as well as the other drivers on the road, take the time to slow down, to look for school buses, and be prepared to stop.”

Officers with the CKPS Traffic Management Unit will be out in force throughout the week.

“They’re going to specifically be targetting school bus related offences, including going that 40 km/hr in school zones,” Koldyk says.

A first-time offence can include fines from $400 to $2,000 and have six demerit points added to your license.
