School Rules Will Depend on Vaccination Status

Ontario’s top doctor says the rules for kids heading back to the classroom in September will vary depending on their vaccination status.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore says one of the advantages of being fully immunized is being able to stay in school, attend sports, and participate fully in social activities in the school setting.

However, those who have not been vaccinated would have to isolate for a minimum of 10 days and require at least two negative COVID tests, seven days apart, before being allowed to return to school.

Right now, only 50 percent of Chatham-Kent youth aged 12-17 have received at last one shot, while 31% are fully vaccinated.

Provincial officials say Ontario’s back-to-school plan will be released in the coming weeks. The 2021-22 school year is slated to start in less than six weeks, Tuesday, September 7th.
