It’s been a long summer, and it’s going to take some time to get back into the swing of school buses on area road ways.
Thousands of kids across the municipality are going back to school and that means you’ll be stopping for the bus on the way to work.
Every motorist needs to stop at a bus that has its lights on and has come to a stop.
Drivers who pass a stopped school bus can be charged and face a fine of up to $2,000 plus six demerit points for a first offence. Repeat offenders risk fines of $1,000 to $4,000 and up to six months in jail.
For kids and parents, make sure you’re well back from the roadside, don’t play close to the road, cross, in front of the bus, look both ways and wait for the driver to signal you cross.
Across the province, more than 800,000 students take the school bus to and from classes.
