Two people have been injured, including an elderly man who is fighting for his life in hospital, following a weekend collision in Chatham.

Just before 7:30 Saturday morning, Chatham-Kent Police officers responded to a serious crash involving an SUV and a vintage car at the intersection of Richmond Street and Bloomfield Road.

Investigators say the SUV was heading west on Richmond when it collided with the vintage car as it travelled south on Bloomfield.

The 27-year-old Windsor woman behind the wheel of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital. An 88-year-old Chatham man, who had been driving the classic car, was airlifted from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Unit is looking to speak with any witnesses as the investigation continues.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Brandon McKeen at brandonmc@chatham-kent.ca or 519- 355-1092.
