The Chatham-Kent Animal Shelter continues to move closer to a reality.
Friends of the New Animal Shelter Project Coordinator Lynn McGeachy-Schultz says they are about half way to their fundraising goal.
“We’re nicely progressing in terms of what the building functionality needs to be,” McGeachy-Schultz says. “We’re in the process of beginning to look at choosing architects to complete the project.”
The shelter is expected to cost approximately $1.5-million.
The current animal shelter, which houses animal control for Wards 2 and 6 (South Kent and Chatham,) was built in 1974 and is in desperate need of being replaced.
A benefit concert is being held at the Chatham Capitol Theatre Friday night, featuring country star and Merlin-native Michelle Wright.
