Shoreline Under Attack

Erie Shore Drive.

A blast of wintery weather has the potential to cause even more damage along the Lake Erie shoreline.

As a cold front moves across the region today, high winds and waves could pound the already battered shoreline.

According to the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, it only takes winds of about 35 kilometres an hour to bring potential flooding to the area – today’s gusts could top 75 kilometres an hour.

However, officials say the extent of damage will depend on the direction – westerly winds will keep the waves off-shore for the most part, but a more southerly direction brings the potential for damage.

People should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough. The waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery.
