Should the CKPL Move to the DCC?

The Chatham library could have a new home in the future.

At tonight’s Chatham-Kent council meeting, council will consider a recommendation from the Chatham-Kent library board to increase the size of the Chatham library.

A potential new home for the Chatham library is the downtown Chatham mall, which has a lot of vacant space. The Chatham branch expansion would create more seating areas, study spaces, dedicated children’s and adult programming areas, as well as quiet study areas.

The municipality is also considering possibly moving municipal offices and services to the Downtown Chatham Centre. In the near future council will look into a proposal about how much it will cost to move services into the mall.

In the event that the library does not move Chatham branch to the DCC, administration will return to council in the future with a plan of increasing the library at its current location.
