
The province’s police oversight agency is investigating after a man suffered medical distress while in the custody of the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
The Special Investigations Unit said on November 26, CK police officers executed a search warrant at a home in Chatham and arrested a suspect.
The 34-year-old Chatham man was lodged in a holding cell, where he fell into medical distress. The man was taken to the local hospital, where he was treated and released back into police custody.
Police and the SIU have released no further details about the incident.
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that investigates any incident involving police that has resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
