SIU releases name of machete wielding man

Ontario’s police watchdog has released the identity of a man who died following an altercation with Windsor Police earlier this week.

Monday afternoon, officers responded to reports of a machete-wielding man who was threatening people at the intersection of Wyandotte Street East and Ouellette Avenue.

One officer deployed a taser while another shot the suspect.

The accused, who has now been identified as 70-year-old Allan Andkilde, was taken to hospital where he later died.

The Special Investigations Unit has assigned three investigators and three forensic investigators to the case, with one subject official and five witness officials designated at this point.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.

The Special Investigations Unit’s mandate covers any police activity that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
