Several charges have been laid following a six-hour standoff with police on Lacroix Street in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the area of Lacroix Street between Harvey Street and Wellington Street sometime Friday evening after receiving a call about a man acting erratically. Witnesses told police that the man was interfering with traffic.
When officers arrived, the man waved an unspecified weapon at police and retreated into his residence.
Officers secured the residence, closed the road to traffic, and urged the public to avoid the area.
After around six hours, a 57-year-old man was arrested without incident, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team. No injuries were reported.
The man now faces several charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer and uttering threats. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
